Terms and Conditions – John Alexander Morrice
I want every lesson to be a safe, inclusive, and meaningful learning experience where students feel respected, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential. To help make that possible, the following terms apply to all students and their families.
1. Cancellations & Absences
1.1 Student Absence
Illness and unexpected situations happen. If your child is unwell or unable to attend, please let me know by email no later than 7:45 AM on the day of the lesson. If I don’t hear from you in time, the lesson may be forfeited. Provided the required notice is given, I’ll offer a rescheduled session.
1.2 Tutor Absence
If I need to cancel a lesson due to illness or an emergency, I’ll notify you via email by 7:00 AM on the day of the lesson. Any cancelled lesson will be rescheduled at a time that suits us both.
2. Verification & Access
2.1 Student and Parent/Guardian Verification
For safeguarding purposes, both the student and a parent or guardian must be verified in the Zoom waiting room before the first lesson. This means having cameras on briefly for identity confirmation.
2.2 Denied Access
If verification isn’t possible, I reserve the right to deny entry to the lesson. In this case, the session will not be refunded.
3. Camera Use
While I encourage students to use their cameras to create a more interactive experience, I understand that this may not always be comfortable. Camera use is optional during the lesson—but it is required briefly at the start of each session for identity verification.
4. Behaviour Expectations
4.1 Respectful Behaviour
All students are expected to behave respectfully during lessons. I reserve the right to remove a student from a session if their behaviour is inappropriate. This includes (but is not limited to):
- Swearing, hate speech, or discriminatory language
- Disruptive behaviour or refusal to engage
- Sharing inappropriate content (images, messages, links)
- Bullying or harassment of any kind
No refund will be given in these cases.
4.2 Safeguarding
As a qualified teacher, I have a duty of care to ensure student safety. If a student discloses anything concerning or exhibits behaviour that suggests they may be at risk of harm, I may need to report this to the appropriate safeguarding authorities.

5. Refund Policy for Lesson Packages
I aim to offer a fair approach while maintaining a sustainable and reliable tutoring service.
5.1 Refunds Before the First Lesson
If you cancel your package before attending any lessons, I will issue a full refund, minus a 5% processing fee to cover transaction costs.
5.2 Refunds After Lessons Have Started
If you’ve already attended one or more lessons, any refund will be calculated as follows:
- Lessons already attended will be charged at the full single-lesson rate (not the discounted package rate).
- The remaining balance will be refunded, minus a 5% processing fee.
5.3 No Refunds for Missed or Late Cancellations
Lessons missed without the required notice (see 1.1) will not be refunded or rescheduled. I will, however, consider genuine emergencies on a case-by-case basis.
5.4 Expiry of Packages
Lesson packages must be used within 12 months of purchase. Any unused lessons after this time are non-refundable.
5.5 Exceptional Circumstances
If something unexpected happens that prevents you from continuing with lessons, please get in touch. I will always consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis.
6. Lesson Package Transfer & Expiry Policy
I offer flexibility for families who are unable to use all of their booked revision or group package lessons.
6.1 Transferring Lessons to Siblings
Any remaining lessons can be transferred to a sibling (regardless of Key Stage), as long as the subject is one I tutor.
6.2 Gifting to Family Members
You may also choose to gift any unused lessons to another family member. Just email me their details and I’ll issue a coupon code for the remaining lessons.
The recipient will need to register on my website and accept these Terms before scheduling.
6.3 Use Before Expiry
All lesson packages are valid for one year from the date of purchase. If lessons are not used within that time, they cannot be carried over unless there are exceptional circumstances.
6.4 Refunds & Exchanges
Refunds are handled according to Section 5. Packages cannot be exchanged for other services.
7. Satisfaction Guarantee
I want you to feel confident in the quality of my lessons. If you’re unhappy after your first session, you may request a refund for any remaining lessons in the package. To qualify:
- You must request the refund within 24 hours of the first lesson.
- The refund will follow the policy in Section 5 (i.e., the first lesson will be charged at the full single-lesson rate).
After the first session, refunds for dissatisfaction aren’t guaranteed but will always be considered on a case-by-case basis. If something’s not working, I encourage you to talk to me—I’m always happy to adjust my approach where possible.
